AUTO RESPONDERSresponder

Hello all!

It has come to our attention over the holidays that many people wish to setup Auto-Responders for their email addresses since most of us our taking Thursday and Friday off. Here’s what you need to do at JB Systems to setup your Auto-Responder:

  • Log Into Your Webmail Account
    • If you’re NOT on our new mail server yet, visit the address:  http://yourdomainname.com/webmail
    • If you ARE on our new email server, visit the address: http://webmail.yourdomainname.com
  • Once logged in, click on the “Auto Responders” icon (middle of the screen, below “Squirrel Mail”)
  • Click on the “Add Autoresponder” button.
  • Fill out the “From” field (ex. JB Systems Front Desk). This should NOT be an email address.
  • Fill in the “Subject” field (ex. Merry Christmas – We’re Gone Through the 1st)
  • Fill in the “Body” field. Keep it short, but let people know you’re out of the office and will get back to them shortly.
  • Click on the “Create / Modify” button and you’re set.

On the Auto-Responder screen, you’ll see your new Auto-Responder listed. When you no longer need the responder set up, simply click on the  button next to it.

That’s all for now! Merry Christmas everyone!!

Your team at JB Systems.

New Service – Linux Administration

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

centos

Over the past eight years, JB Systems has been building the core of our business around Linux – an operating system just like Mac OS X and Windows. In 2008, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer admitted that over 60% of all webservers globally were Linux-run.

Linux is known for its stability (unlike other operating systems out there, eh hem) and has been the mainstay platform of not only our webservers, but also our dedicated email and database servers. We are qualified to maintain RedHat and CentOS distributions of Linux and use them on a daily basis.

Starting in January 2010 – JB Systems is offering a dedicated server administration service – allowing clients to have JB Systems manage a dedicated Linux server to support their internal email, file sharing, and web-application needs.

Do you have an old LAMP project that needs support?

JB Systems has been chosen by numerous companies to “adopt” their LAMP-based web application built in the past and to continue supporting it, if not upgrading it altogether. Contact us today if you think you may benefit from this service.

OpenDNS – JB Systems Recommended

A detail often overlooked by many companies is DNS or Domain Name System – which typically is handled by your ISP (Internet Service Provided – ex. AT&T, Charter, etc). Sorry for all of the acronyms everyone!

The problem with DNS that is provided by ISPs is that they are slow, they do not update as regularly as others, and typically do not provide services such as web content filtering, anti-phishing, malware site protection, and other services.

As of 2009, JB Systems has recently adopted the use of OpenDNS – a FREE service provided by OpenDNS.com. With a couple of minor changes to your DNS settings (yes, even all you techno-phobes can change this too!) you can browse the web faster, safer, and more reliably.

For a list of features and reasons to consider OpenDNS – see the following link:

For steps on how to get started, see this link (use the link for OpenDNS Free):

From the JB Labs – UPS Worldship Integration

If you’re looking for an E-commerce solution – look no further than JB Systems. Our state-of-the-art e-commerce solution integrates not only with over 30 merchant account providers, but we’ve recently unlocked the power of UPS Worldship – allowing “2 Click” integration. What does this mean? Simple – when your website takes in an order – you’re emailed a confirmation receipt (as well as the customer). That receipt has an invoice number. When it comes time to ship – simply open up UPS Worldship and enter the invoice number from the receipt. Our solution will “talk” directly with our database (housed on JB servers) and fill in ALL OF THE SHIPPING INFORMATION for you. Now that’s time saved!

For a good demonstration of one of our E-commerce stores in action – visit www.armynavywisconsin.com.

jQuery In Action – Part Two

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

rainmasterIn our quest of unveiling new technologies, this time around using jQuery- we’d like to steer to you RainMaster Lawn Systems. The use of a new jQuery library allowed us to add some PIZAZZ to their customer testimonials page.

Notice how the testimonials take precedence over everything once you click the “View Testimonials” button. Convenient “left” and “right” arrows allow you to “step through” the different images (way cool hand-written testimonials).

jQuery in Action

jquery-logoFor our blog submission this week, I’d like to spend a moment on jQuery. This newest addition to our arsenal of website development tools allows for some nice interactivity for our clients’ websites and their prospective visitors.

jQuery – the “Write Less – Do More” JavaScript library – is a lightweight (very condensed code) set of tools allowing us to add animation, fluid movement, and special effects to our websites – giving our websites that ‘POP’ that so many websites often lack.

What Does This Mean For You – Your Website?

Since JB Systems follows no set framework, our websites are free to use virtually ANY technology that is readily available.
Our websites can take advantage of these new tools and can WOW potential visitors (and hopefully customers) – instilling in them a feeling that your company is technologically savvy because the website is so different.

Look for upcoming announcements about new websites including jQuery features.
